IN THE GARDEN - A bird came down the walk
A bird came down the walk: / He did not know I saw;
THE overtakelessness of those
Who have accomplished Death,
Majestic is to me beyond
The majesties of Earth.
The soul her not at Home
Inscribes upon the flesh,
And takes her fair aerial gait
Beyond the hope of touch.
A bird came down the walk: / He did not know I saw;
There's something quieter than sleep / Within this inner room!
Remembrance has a rear and front, -- / 'T is something like a house;
As imperceptibly as grief / The summer lapsed away, --
