A Farewell
Flow down, cold rivulet, to the sea, / ; ; Thy tribute wave deliver:
Flow down, cold rivulet, to the sea, / ; ; Thy tribute wave deliver:
I thought of Thee, my partner and my guide, / As being past away. -Vain sympathies!
Ask me no more: the moon may draw the sea; / The cloud may stoop from heaven and take the shape,
Beautiful city, the centre and crater of European confusion, / O you with your passionate shriek for the rights of an equal
THE splendour falls on castle walls / ; And snowy summits old in story:
Come not, when I am dead, / To drop thy foolish tears upon my grave,
What does little birdie say / In her nest at peep of day?
Sunset and evening star, / ; And one clear call for me!
1. Is it the wind of the dawn that I hear / ; ; ;in the pine overhead?
Once more the Heavenly Power / Makes all things new,
Flower in the crannied wall, / I pluck you out of the crannies,
Home they brought her warrior dead: / ;She nor swooned, nor uttered cry:
I envy not in any moods / The captive void of noble rage,
O Sorrow, cruel fellowship, / O Priestess in the vaults of Death,
I wage not any feud with Death / For changes wrought on form and face;
Is it, then, regret for buried time / ; ; ; ;That keenlier in sweet April wakes,
Dark house, by which once more I stand / ; ; ; ;Here in the long unlovely street,
O Sorrow, cruel fellowship, / ; ; ; ;O Priestess in the vaults of Death,
Calm is the morn without a sound, / ; ; ; ;Calm as to suit a calmer grief,
Sad Hesper o'er the buried sun / ; ; ; ;And ready, thou, to die with him,
