There's something quieter than sleep / Within this inner room!

A deed knocks first at thought, / And then it knocks at will.
Who never wanted, -- maddest joy / Remains to him unknown:
It dropped so low in my regard / I heard it hit the ground,
The sun kept setting, setting still; / No hue of afternoon
Death is a dialogue between / The spirit and the dust.
No rack can torture me, / My soul's at liberty
God gave a loaf to every bird, / But just a crumb to me;
The soul selects her own society, / Then shuts the door;
EXHILARATION is the Breeze / That lifts us from the ground,
FAREWELL. / Tie the strings to my life, my Lord,
FOR Death,–or rather / For the things 'twill buy,
There is a word / Which bears a sword
One need not be a chamber to be haunted, / One need not be a house;
Went up a year this evening! / I recollect it well!
I measure every grief I meet / With analytic eyes;
Going to heaven! / I don't know when,
