HUNGER - I had been hungry all the years
I had been hungry all the years; / My noon had come, to dine;
I had been hungry all the years; / My noon had come, to dine;
Have you got a brook in your little heart, / Where bashful flowers blow,
He put the belt around my life, -- / I heard the buckle snap,
He touched me, so I live to know / That such a day, permitted so,
High from the earth I heard a bird; / He trod upon the trees
How dare the robins sing, / When men and women hear
I CAN'T tell you, but you feel it– / Nor can you tell me,
I had a guinea golden; / I lost it in the sand,
I SEE thee better in the dark, / I do not need a light.
I died for beauty, but was scarce / Adjusted in the tomb,
I felt a funeral in my brain, / And mourners, to and fro,
I know a place where summer strives / With such a practised frost,
I many times thought peace had come, / When peace was far away;
I meant to find her when I came; / Death had the same design;
I read my sentence steadily, / Reviewed it with my eyes,
I reason, earth is short, / And anguish absolute,
I think just how my shape will rise / When I shall be forgiven,
I'm nobody! Who are you? / Are you nobody, too?
I dreaded that first robin so, / But he is mastered now,
A bird came down the walk: / He did not know I saw;
